TENS Hire Terms & Conditions
Thank you for choosing Drift Away Massage for your TENS hire.
To ensure fairness for all clients — especially those waiting close to their due dates — the following terms apply.
1. Hire Bond
A fully refundable bond of $50 is required to secure your booking.
The bond will be refunded once the unit is returned:
On or before the agreed return date
In good working order
Clean and orderly
With all components included
If the unit is returned damaged, incomplete, lost or stolen, the bond will not be refunded and additional charges may apply.
2. Return Dates & Late Fees
Your dispatch and return dates are clearly stated:
In your booking confirmation
On the information sheet included in your hire pack
Because TENS units are frequently booked back-to-back, timely return is essential.
If the unit is not returned by the agreed date and no prior arrangement has been made, a late fee of $25 per week (or part week) will apply until the unit is received.
If you contact us before your due return date and arrange an extension (subject to availability), a reduced extension fee of $10 per week applies.
We understand life with a newborn is busy — and reminders are sent where possible — however, responsibility for return remains with the customer.
3. Cleaning & Return Condition
A printed Return Checklist is included in every hire pack. Please follow this when preparing your unit for return.
For hygiene and safety reasons, the unit must be returned:
With pads removed from cables
Pads placed back onto their plastic sheets
Cables untangled
Unit wiped clean
All components placed neatly back into the box as received
TENS units are used during labour and are considered a personal-use device during hire. They must be returned in a clean and orderly condition so they can be safely prepared for the next client.
If the unit is returned:
With pads still attached
Cables tangled
Components disorganised
Or in an unhygienic condition
A $10 cleaning and handling fee will be deducted from the bond.
This fee reflects the additional time required to safely dismantle, clean and prepare the unit for the next client.
4. Damage, Loss & Missing Items
Please take reasonable care of the unit during your hire.
If the unit is:
Damaged due to misuse or accident
Lost or stolen
Not returned
The full retail replacement cost will be charged.
Replacement costs for missing items:
$10 – Instruction booklet or box
$20 – Cable
$25 – Rechargeable battery
5. Non-Refundable Hire Fee
The hire fee is non-refundable.
The bond is refundable (subject to return conditions above).
Refunds are not provided for:
Change of mind
Baby arriving earlier than expected
Labour progressing too quickly to use the unit
Personal choice not to use the TENS
If cancellation occurs prior to dispatch or collection, a refund will be issued less a $10 administration fee (bond refunded in full).
Once dispatched or collected, bookings cannot be cancelled.
6. Courier & Delivery
Delivery is via third-party courier.
Estimated timeframes:
Overnight to main centres
Up to 3 additional working days for rural delivery
Delivery dates cannot be guaranteed.
If booking less than 21 days before your due date, you accept the risk that baby may arrive before the unit does. No refund is available once dispatched.
If your unit has not arrived within expected timeframes, please contact us promptly so we can assist with tracking.
7. Safe Use
TENS units must be used in accordance with the instructions provided.
TENS must NOT be used:
Before 37 weeks gestation
By anyone with a pacemaker
With heart disease or epilepsy
In water (remove before shower, bath or birthing pool)
If you have medical concerns, consult your midwife or doctor prior to use.
Effectiveness in labour varies between individuals and is not guaranteed.
8. Liability
All units are tested prior to dispatch.
Liability of Drift Away Massage is limited to the hire fee paid.
Customers must check contents upon receipt and notify Drift Away Massage immediately if there are any issues.
9. Agreement
By completing payment and providing your contact details, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
Gift Vouchers of Monetary Value or Massages & Spa Treatments
Gift vouchers will either sent to you electronically via email (voucher), or collected physically from our Howick Studio. Please check if the email address is correct. If you have not received your voucher, you can contact us at hello@driftaway.nz. Please also check junk mail folders.
At time of purchase please ensure you email us all information required for your voucher

Type of Treatment or service purchased
Any special message you may like added.
Please note … if these are used for a Gift (and not yourself) don’t worry, we won’t include the $value on the voucher. Just the Treatment & time allocation so your recipient knows what they are coming for :)
Gift vouchers can also be purchased in studio.
Gift Voucher Terms and Conditions
Gift vouchers are valid for up to 6 months, unless otherwise specified.
Gift vouchers are non-refundable.
Gift vouchers are fully transferable but not redeemable for cash.
Gift vouchers of monetary value can be redeemed towards services or products, unless otherwise specified.
Gift vouchers must be cancelled or changed within 24 hours of scheduled appointment time or we will deduct 50% of the value.
Gift voucher appointments which have been booked and clients fail to show will be considered redeemed in full.
Please let us know your voucher number at time of booking.
Gift vouchers must be presented at time of appointment.
We do not take responsibility for lost or stolen vouchers. If a Gift Certificate is lost, stolen or destroyed or used without permission, a replacement will not be provided.
Gift vouchers cannot be used to purchase additional gift vouchers.
Gift vouchers can be combined with multiple vouchers if required. Please discuss at time of your booking.
Gift vouchers are not valid with any other promotions or offers.
